About Advieh

Advieh simply means "spices" in Persian, but refers to specific spice blends used in Persian cooking. Unlike standardized blends, every family and region has their own recipe passed down through generations.

Common Varieties

Rice Advieh (ادویه پلویی)

Lighter, more floral blend for polo dishes:

  • Rose petals
  • Cardamom
  • Cinnamon
  • Cumin

Stew Advieh (ادویه خورشتی)

Heavier, warmer blend for khoresh:

How to Use

  • Rice: 1/2 to 1 teaspoon per 2 cups rice
  • Stews: 1 teaspoon added with onions

Making Your Own

Toast whole spices lightly, then grind fresh. Store in airtight container for up to 3 months. Commercial blends work but lack the brightness of freshly made.
